FINALLY! I've looked for an interpretation of Revelation that makes sense for YEARS, and I find it's been available since before I was born. Who knew? What I love about Hendriksen's interpretation is that he uses scripture to interpret scripture. He takes all views into account and argues for or against each one. With scripture. As a writer, I appreciate how he sees the literary craftsmanship of the Bible and considers that throughout the work. The ones who do this make the best teachers. Hendri [...]

For those who are tired of contemporary end time readings, annoyed at wacky interpretations of Revelation, and wanting a sober well exegete of the Bible's last book, then this book is a MUST read for you. Hendrickson does well to keep your attention, and most importantly that is so lost on Biblical reading, he uses the Bible to interpret the Bible. He presents and makes a compelling case for Amillenniumism(spelling?). Although not completely exhaustive of the text, Hendrickson provides the reade [...]

This book proved such a great help once again. I first read it some years back, but reread it due the dispensationalist teaching that I was being assaulted with at my local church. Dr Hendriksen gives a us thorougher explanation of the Book of Revelation, and his spiritual application of its theology is most refreshing.

Awesome - truly sets forth the triumph of Christ over all enemies. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

I first read this book as an undergraduate and it was great to re-acquire and re-read it. This is the clearest and most cohesive treatment of Revelation I have read. This 1940 book is a classic.

This book was given to me by a friend at church. Word on the street is that I'm leaning toward a post-millennial eschatology. I think this brother was alarmed and wanted to get something solidly Amillennial into my hands before I drifted too far to the dark side. I have studiously avoided eschatology during my five-year Reformed journey because thirty years as Dispensationalist, with their love affair with the modern State of Israel, their pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib rapture debates, and newsp [...]

The book of Revelation has always been difficult for me to access. I'm immensely thankful that my seminary professor assigned us this reading. Hendricksen spends his early chapters introducing an eclectic, parallelism approach to interpreting the seven sections of Revelation. He defends this hermetical framework persuasively, namely that every section of Revelation covers the entire Gospel Age, the inter-advent period. Hendricksen's writing style is refreshing. He has a great voice that a laymen [...]

In More Than Conquerors, Hendriksen offers an interpretation of the book of Revelation. This work is not a scholarly commentary. Rather, it is an easier-to-grasp treatment of one of the New Testament’s most difficult works. In this work, Hendriksen constantly sounds the theme of Christ’s victory and the hope of believers who are living in a persecuting world. And, in this work, the author avoids diving deep into controversies regarding eschatology. Readers of this work will find a well-writ [...]

This book is a classic fortress of wisdom and insight on the Revelation. Perhaps the most impactful part of the book for me from a long term view was the biography section in the introduction about Hendriksen's life. What a joyful, giving, selfless man he was. Hendriksen's insights far outweigh his follies in this incredible volume. Although I wish he'd have explained some things in more depth, any reader will have to agree that he has a solid command of Biblical knowledge and the information he [...]

There are 2 types of commentary: the one that you read cover to cover and the one that you use for reference. This is the one that you want to read cover to cover because it is so elegantly written and easy to read.Interpreting the book of Revelation is not an easy task. So instead of focusing on the symbolisms, Hendriksen focuses on the main theme of the book: the victory of Christ and the church over the dragon (Satan) and his followers. The beauty of this book is that it views the book of Rev [...]

This review is also posted on Book by Book.Celebrating its 75th anniversary, More Than Conquerors: An Interpretation of the Book of Revelation is a highly beneficial book for Christians hoping to understand the daunting Book of Revelation a bit better. Hendricksen does approach the topic from an amillennial perspective, which may be new or different for some readers, but his interpretation offers a completely compelling and thought-provoking exploration of Revelation. I enjoyed reading this book [...]

Here is an excellent, "common sense" approach to interpreting the book of Revelation. Forget about all the convoluted theories and speculations that tie the visions of Revelations into current events. Instead, read this portion of God's Word as though the same period of history (Incarnation to Second Coming) were being viewed from seven different perspectives, one for each of the seven visions that make up the book. What a refreshing lens through which to read and meditate on Revelation! Why, it [...]

I recently picked up More than Conquerors by William Hendriksen. While I'm sure this book has some good points, this was not the right time for me to attempt it. I tried reading this book while on my Christmas break from university, and that turned out to be a mistake as I could not concentrate at all. It was way too heavy and dense for light reading. Also, it was too much like my school reading to the point that I couldn't relax or enjoy myself. Perhaps I'll give it a go in the future or when I [...]

A brilliant, in-depth analysis of the book of Revelation. Hendriksen begins the book with chapters providing a general analysis, unity and diversity, symbolism found, and an overview of the basis for interpretation. He then analyzes Revelation chronologically, from a thoroughly idealist perspective. Throughout the book he presents a series of propositions which, when compiled, provide an excellent overview of all the book's principles. This book is quite technical, so perhaps not for the beginne [...]

A good reading of Revelation from an amillennial point of view I just don't about his overall thesis that Revelation is recapitulatory (is that even a word??). Hendriksen (and others) believe that the different sections of Revelation relate history (from a spiritual point of view) repeatedly, emphasizing different spiritual truths each time. The fact that he (and others) can read Revelation this way should at least make us pause and consider their view-point. In a book as magnificent as Revelat [...]

This is one of the more encouraging commentaries on the Book of Revelation that I have read. I especially appreciated Dr. Hendriksen's treatment of Revelation 20. I also appreciated his noting the witness of history, including the following account of the martyrdom of Polycarp: "He had been asked to say, 'Ceasar is Lord,' but refused. Brought to the stadium, the proconsul urged him, saying, 'Swear, and I will set thee at liberty, reproach Christ.' Polycarp answered, 'Eighty and six years have I [...]

This is a good book for people who are researching information on the book of Revelation. It presents a lot of useful information. However, if you insist that the pretribulation Rapture view is correct and everything else is worthless, then you will be wasting your time reading this book.Even though the author takes the point of view that Revelation has a nonliteral interpretation, he does in fact say that there is some literal meaning in it.

I struggled with Hendriksen's interpretation on many points, and even found his views to be a minority amongst other amillenialists. Thus, my 3-star rating. Though, I did find his overall stress on Christ and His people to be the eventual and ultimate conquerors over sin and Satan a great encouragement!

Very good commentary. It's light enough for the average study of Revelation, but it's technical enough to really get into and come away with an understanding of Revelation. This book is actually used extensively by some of the most thorough commentaries on Revelation. This is a great foundation to your study on John's important Epistle.

A challenging read, but not too much facts;much more biblical facts;which is good for we have to be careful on what we think of end times. The author to me at times gave too information but as he cared on it got much better, because he didn't focus on factual teaching but on are are more than conquerors because of Christ who dwells with us and because of Him we've all ready won.

A good explanation of the book of Revelation from the amillennial view point. I really enjoyed the read. It has serious exegesis and sound arguments in defense of the view. I think it is a must read for serious students of Revelation, even if you don't agree with his view (which I do not).

I am not necessarily convinced of the author's idealist interpretation of Revelation, but it was good to finally get around to reading this classic commentary. Even if you disagree with the author's outlook, it is still well worth reading.

The classic

An excellent, scholarly commentary on the Book of Revelation from the Amillenial approach. This book should be read by all students of eschatology.

Great on Revelation. An alternative to Hal Lindsey.

A great interpretation of a book so often misunderstood. Highly recommended.

I found this a well-reasoned, non-speculative, sane interpretation of the book of Revelation. I especially appreciated Hendriksen's contagious warmth and passion for his subject. Highly recommended.

Ambitious insightful book clarifying the Book of Revelation. A challenging read but worth the effort.

One of the best books/commentaries on the book of Revelation from an Amillenium interpretation. A must read.

This book is currently in storage while my home is being renovated.
