I decided to read this one again, its a story that pops into my head every now and then. I love the setting for this book, 714 Scotland, I'm a sucker for medieval knights. While I still enjoyed the overall story, there were a few things that I would have tweaked. For example, I wish there hadn't been such an emphasis on Elywtha being a warrior. She did NOT come across as a warrior at all. Maybe it was all the crying and insecurities. I also got tired of the back and forth with her feelings for t [...]

Okay, I have a new favorite book.okay at least for the day. I'm always finding new favorite books. Let's just say I will definately be reading this one again. I found it on on a "Clean Romance" list and thought I would try it. I LOVED it:). It was a fast, fun, read and I loved the characters. The title made me a bit nervous;)but I was pleasantly surprised that it was clean and fit into a "Marcia Lyn Mcclure" type genre(another of my VERY favorite authors.) An author who you can trust! I can't w [...]

*shoots herself* Ok, I got redirected to this book somehow through a fantasy novel recommendation. So I began this book fully expecting a historical fantasy novel, with romance of course. Boy, was I in for a surprise.First of all, this novel is the epitome of mediocre writing, with choppy sentences and awful repetition. Secondly, this is just a silly historical romance, and a bad one at that. The summary suggests an intriguing tale of a woman in the belly of the beast, pretending to broker a pea [...]

The Commander's Desire is a thrilling, sensual historical romance novel, and Jennette Green is a wonderful, talented author. The author takes us back in time to 715AD and spins us a romantic tale about an honorable warrior princess named Elwytha who is torn between her need to avenge her family, and the love she feels for the enemy she's sworn to kill. Filled with intrigue and suspense, "The Commander's Desire" will have you flipping through the pages in breathless anticipation. The hero in the st [...]

The beginning of this book was great! I loved the first half. But after that I got frustrated with the main character. I wish she would just do what she thought was right and not whine so much. And I wish she was in the fight at the end, to show off her fighting skills and all that. :) And the love scenes were too much for me. I know they were married and it wasn't graphic, but still too much for my taste. I like it when they get married, he carries her across the threshold, and then he closes t [...]

8/29/13 - Just as good the second time around. I needed to read a 5 star book, and this delivered for me again. 1/28/13 - Really, really good! Loved most every minute of it. Loved the characters! If not for the language, it would have been perfect. Moral Note: Has son of motherless goat quite a few times 10+, and a few hecks. Some passionate kisses and fade into black scenes between a married couple, nothing graphic.

I really liked it, very well done. It is a early mid-evil read which I love. I really loved the charcters they were great! And it is a clean romance!!

that is .5 for: I DESPISE THIS BOOK! No.t despise the book but something or rather someone else. SO let me begin by saying I read the summary before i downloaded it and was thinking this is goanna be great. I mean, the plot is gripping enough? i can do with mediocre writing (as long as it is not boring and does not sound like a teenager's diary), i have long sought for a plot similar to this and i found it? What is not to like? BOY WAS A FREAKING WRONG! dis had the making of a great book. THe au [...]

Overall this was a good story. The idea of a warrior maiden getting revenge for her brothers murder by becoming the murderers bride and trying to kill him, awesome! Unfortunately the execution was lacking and there were things that bothered me, but they didn't bother me enough to stop reading. The book was just fun to read and I overlooked a lot of the other stuff and just enjoyed the tension and romance between the main characters, because after all that is what I wanted from this book. So if y [...]

I read this book a while back and just realized I never reveiwed it.I really enjoyed this book. I loved the tention and I loved how their relationship grew. you also end up really in love with the commander too. As I read I just kept turning pages wondering how it was all going to end. I loved how it ended and part of me wishes for more books!!!

Clean reads fans of Donna Hatch's Queen in Exile and Marcia Lynn McClure's Crimson Frost will love this great love story full of forgiveness and seeing past political boundaries.

It was a good book; I usually prefer first-person but it was well written still. I'm not giving any spoilers, but I think if she just took a leap of faith, the ending would have been better, but still a good book to read and would recommend it to historical fiction romance lovers!

I came across this book while I was searching for fantasy type books. When I first read the title I thought surly it was one of those bodice rippers and it wouldn't be for me. But since it popped up in my fantasy search I took a closer look at it. After reading the description and reviews I decided it sounded interesting and to give it a try, mainly because I liked the medieval type setting, but I must admit that I hid the title of this book while I was reading it because I didn’t want anyone [...]

Final feeling: irritatedI read The Commander's Desire on a road trip, and was pretty irritated by it. The arguing and mistrust seemed like it was non-stop, down to the last two pages. In a romance novel I don't mind a little angst, as long as there is a strong resolution that rewards me for reading through the frustrating conflict. There was no afterglow when I was done reading. There was barely a catharsis. In fact when I finished I was still so frustrated that I went on and on to my husband fo [...]

I started this book at 8:00 pm the other night thinking I would read one chapter and then get on with the night, go to bed early, etc Well, I was over halfway into the novel before I finally turned out the lights at 1:00 am! The romantic tension took me by surprise; it drew me in and held me there. I finished the book the next day. Captivating!

Aww Kathy you've suggested another good one!! Thank you!! Such a good cute book.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! The title sounds a little questionable but not the case! Fun, clean, witty and just an overall good love story!

I loved the characters and the story. Medieval romance is the best! You know it's good when you can't put it down.

Excellent bookI really loved this book and hope there will be another. I would like to see a book about the Prince. Thank you Jennette keep up the good work!!!!

[Full disclosure: I received a free ebook through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.]Even a week after reading The Commander’s Desire I’m still not really sure what to think of it. There were good elements and bad elements, so I might as well start with the bad.The thing I didn’t like was the historical ambiguity. Sure, Jeanette Green set a time period for the thing but I really didn’t feel immersed in the period. It seemed like your typical quasi-Medieval TV show, if I’m hone [...]

4 Stars!Read 6/19/10 & Re-read 12/28/12Someone suggested this book and I have to say I also enjoyed reading it. It has the typical girl with an agenda, she fights falling in love with hated enemy only to find out things are not always what you believe them to be. I agree with other reviews that are a bit creeped out that we never get the hero's name. He is only known asThe Commander" A scared, unloved & unworthy of her - man." You know the drill. The Princess plans to kill her brother's [...]

arest enemy!715 AD Galwyddel, a Scottish kingdom far to the west of Northumbria.Caught on the horns of a dilemma, Elwytha has a choice to make, honour or vengeance. When Elwytha agreed to sue for a false peace with the waring neighbouring kingdom, little did she know that her plans would be thwarted time and time again. Elwytha was ordered by her brother, now King, to kill The Commander, overseer of their enemy's army, revenge for murdering their older brother, King Thor, so foully. Her brother R [...]

From the moment this book popped up on my recommendation shelf, I've wanted to read it. I've always been a big fan of medivial romances, and the plot to this book sounds wonderful. Now that I've read it, I feel that the plot could have been a bit more, somehow. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book, but I feel that it fell a little short of what I hoped from it. The characters were interesting, well played out, though I felt that the Prince was a bit one dimensional. I liked the Commander. He wa [...]

This one was ok.It featured a young princess warrior named Elwytha, who was ordered by her brother & King, to avenge the death of their brother Thor.King Thor had been ruthlessly murdered by The Commander, and so Elwytha set off to the enemy's stronghold to get revenge. When a series of events occurred, Elwytha and the commander become bethroed. As the princess bids her time, she begins to see there is more to the Commander than meets the eye. He doesn't respond the way she expected and he sh [...]

This was a nice read. The heroine Elwytha is a warrior who seeks to avenge her brother's death by killing her enemy king's commander but ends up betrothed to him instead to her horror. For a while they have a hostile relationship. Although I completely understood why Elwytha didn't like the Commander she sometimes came off as childish as though she were constantly throwing tantrums when for the most part he was kind to her albeit a bit too controlling for my taste. I also wish the author had Elw [...]

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE AUDIO VERSION. I wonder if I would have given it 4 stars if I had read it. The characters are supposed to be young, but the reader sounded like she was in her 50's. She gave each character, not only their own awful voice, but their own voice inflection. No matter what they were talking about, they said it in exactly the same tone. The commander sounded like a robot, the MC sounded like a pompous, whiny child, and the price sounded like a woman, maybe? The story was exactly my [...]

The Commander's Desire is one of those books that sort of sneaks up on you. It is set in the 8th century Celtic tradition when property included land and people. Power was the much-sought-after commodity that drove the culture. Fear, poverty, death were all ever-present in everyone's lives, regardless of station or wealth. The characters are crafted as strong, brash, sharp-edged personalities--just as they indeed were. No time for play-acting although there is treachery a-plenty in this tale. It [...]

Disclaimer: ARC was kindly provided by the publisher for an honest review. It probably isn’t often that anything medieval could be even remotely referred to as retro but The Commander’s Desire was precisely that for me. A classic throw back read from my teenage years. Featuring what in my opinion would be one of the best literary plot-lines, the arranged marriage between warring clans.I adored Elwytha, she was strong yet sensitive often I find when the heroine is supposed to be a warrior the [...]

I actually loved this story! Very well done! I was instantly caught up in this tale of war and assassins and marriage of convenience! I loved how you never really knew what was going to happen and the romance in it was extremely sweet! The only thing that I don't get is the cover just doesn't match the story at all! It looks really scandalous and this really was not! There was a lovey scene but there was no description at all and all it said was something like"she became one with the man she lov [...]

I thought it was beautiful. Simply beautiful. First story I ever read where the man she falls for isn't some hunk some drop dead hottie. It was different for me in that sense. Sure it's all been done before but I feel the author added her own uniqueness to it. I felt every emotion. Sure the protagonist pissed me off at times but that's just how she handles things. I don't wanna spoil anything but I really liked it. I'm not some picky critic who looks for flaws or what's wrong with it (no offense [...]
