Multi character mystery and telling time capsuleWith dozens of families living, working, and visiting Wallace Street, there was plenty of drama. The neighborhood families struggle to make ends meet while staying one step ahead of a child killer. Distinct personalities fill each page allowing you to see the good, bad and the unique in each one. The murder was almost a secondary issue to the lives of the neighbors. The book limped along at a leisurely pace spewing facts about each character. I bel [...]

The blurb tells us that there is a child serial killer in this street of Chicago. However, the story is not a thriller, nor really a mystery. The crime part does not occur until well into the book, and I notice other reviewers have criticized the author for this. The reason it doesn't, in my opinion, is because this is not really what the book is about. The basic part of the book is a look at life in a run-down part of Chicago in the 1950s. Yes, a little girl is killed, then mutilated, but life [...]

Murder! This has Interesting characters in an even more interesting neighborhood. This was a real page term for me. I couldn't put it down until I finished!

Wallace Street, is a mystery novel in e-book format by Tess Devlin. The story line follows the lives of a large number of the poor inhabitants of a severely depressed neighborhood in 1950’s Chicago. A few are fortunate enough to have jobs. Some are too uninterested to try to obtain them. Several are alcoholics, the wives often are abused and the children are plentiful. They proceed through their daily lives in a mostly uninteresting mundane fashion except for a couple of gossip worthy residents [...]

A fast moving mystery with many interesting characters in this Chicago neighborhood from brutal to sweet. The characters are developed through their actions and reaction to others. Some of them are surprising. The ending was a shock to me.

Tess Devlin's, Wallace Street, takes us into a disintegrating toward neighborhood of Chicago in the 1950s. Various characters are introduced and fleshed out to the perfect degree to enhance the story. Because the point of view changes so often and there are so many characters, it can be a bit cumbersome in the beginning keeping track of them all. The effort is well worth it though when slowly the way their lives intertwine is revealed and then a monstrous tension builds as one innocent child aft [...]

Gripping filled with suspense with every turn of a page. What happens when there’s a child murdered lose in the streets? With each child murdered tensions run higher, and the residents of Wallace street no longer care who catches the real murderer first, them, or the cops. This story weaves through many players in the game, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with all the characters. Just when you think you know one of them a new layer is peeled back and you have a reason to believe that maybeTHE [...]

The neighborhood works to find this killer and along the way you’ll find that those living in the neighborhood aren’t always what they might seem to be. Wallace Street has a very natural flow. The story focuses on a neighborhood that is in a state of decay (I’m sure we can all think of that one neighborhood in our city or town that isn’t the best but also not the worst) and it is full of kids of varying ages. The crime is basically non-existent until a bunch of children start coming up murdered. To make it even worse, there is hardly any reporting done on these killings. It is a tragic story that would horrify any parent. Most of the problem [...]

Wallace Street brings you into the lives of the families who live in this neighborhood. They struggle to make ends meet, their relationships are strained, and they work to keep their children out of trouble. All that comes to an end when one of their little girls is killed, the fear and anger that someone would enter their territory was beyond forgiveness. But this wasn’t the first murder, and the murderer lived among them. Tess Devlin did an excellent job opening up the lives of the neighborh [...]

Amazingly dramatic story filled with suspense. This is an awesome drama with a ton of mystery and suspense. This story takes place in a community with no issue rallying behind the local neighborhood. This story comes from a Chicago neighborhood in 1950. The author does a great job of presenting a good story with many twists and turns on the journey of discovering what is going on in this sleepy little community. Follow the story and see if you can figure out who the serial killer may be and how [...]

A great book. A very interesting murder mystery. In fact several young girls in a small town are murdered and the people in a nearby neighborhood want justice. They want the murderer put in jail. Excellent writing from the author. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Good story!Great book, but it will need some editing! Too many misspelled words and improper grammar. Extra letters in words of left out of words. I did enjoy the the book however and would recommend it to anyone else.

Interesting a rereadOn books like this, I usually reread themright away, to catch the little nuances I might have missed, and to get all the characters straight.

Wallace Street ReviewWallace Street is an intriguing mystery novel set in seemingly idyllic 1950s mid-western America. Unlike many novels set in the period, in Wallace Street there is little room for blind romanticizing of days gone by. This story doesn’t hide the hardships that were certainly present during the period, if hidden behind societal guilt and shame. Individualistic, rebellious teenagers, impoverished families taken into welfare scamming, and unconventional adults who keep things q [...]

Wallace Street was so well-done! The characters, the dialogue, and the 50’s Chicago setting were all spot on. I avoided quite a bit of responsibilities just so I could sail through the book. I HAD to know the ending. This close-knit community (a poor neighborhood going downhill) became even closer when a child was murdered, and understandably wanted revenge. How could it be one of THEM? That was hard to swallow. (This is made clear in the book, so that wasn’t a spoiler!)I’ve been hooked on [...]

When I first saw the title I was already rooting for whoever the protagonist was going to turn out to be, good start. I am a big law and order SVU fan so this mystery revenge thriller had me hooked on the story from page one. Set in the mid 1900s, it had me up late at night, and just as tied in if it were some high production movie thriller. Which is always the best when enjoying a novel. The author does a fantastic job when it comes to character development and details. After the first or secon [...]

Wallace Street by Tess Devlin is a dark story. It was showing what the life was like for these fictional characters during the time period. Everything felt real. I can actually see these characters as real people. The way the story was told, almost made it feel like memoir instead of fictional piece. Yet, it was entertaining. It caught my attention. My curiosity lead me to the las page. A crime haunting a particular neighborhood has everyone on alert. Murder, danger, and dead bodies everywhere. [...]

Ending was rushedI felt it was a bit slow, but when it picked up it was great. Unfortunately i felt like the editor came knocking and the author quickly rushed through the ending . Could have been drawn out a bit with some of the other character storylines tied up.

Nice mysteryThe first chapter introduced about 2,058 characters, and I struggled to keep them straight throughout the book. It needs much better editing for words like their vs they're - things that should have been noticed. However, the story was structured nicely and really described a microcosm of American life in that era.
