June 17, 1967 - Battle of Xom Bo II by David Hearne is the story of a Vietnam Battle - one in which Hearne fought. The battle begins with two battalions marching into a landing zone called LZ X-Ray. As the men approach the landing they are pretty confident that they will make it through. Men and weapons strong-- there is no way the Viet Cong will attack. Wrong-thus begins the ambush and attack that will last for hours and claim hundreds of lives and even more wounded.Vietnam 1967 - Hearne is Fir [...]

One battle among many battles in a loosing proposition An excellent first hand account of a horrible battle that took far too many young lives. Poor planning, bad Intel and the improbable attrition method of claiming victory by US command. A very good book, an enjoyable history lesson.

So many gave so much . . I appreciate the dangers and the tragedies that so many endured.I believe this book accurately describes the day's events, but the reader is reminded that it is difficult to impossible to capture the most RAW components of what a battle like this is like. Unlike the real thing, reading a book you don't feel that numbing tension in your gut, the fear and you can't smell death all around you. Bless them and bless David Hearne. Thank you for your service!

Wanted to like this book but the narrative was not well written This is an important event but this book is neither a great narrative providing great first hand accounts nor is it a solid chronicle of events. I wanted to like it but it was simply hard to follow

Excellent read, felt I was there. Great visuals of what was going on in the US st the time. Super.See above. Yahoo messenger and very good morning my beautiful wife of your own home from work with you guys doing

Very good book that could have been great had it been the beneficiary of quality editing.

An absolute must read about a Vietnam War battle that received minimal attention. The author captures the vivid battle scenes and the heroism of thirty nine young warriors who defended the freedoms we Americans take for granted. Paula Czech

This was a serious read for me, and was very enlightening. Thank you David Hearne for all that you and your comrades went through. Words cannot express enough the appreciation I have for the brave men who laid down their lives for our country.
