Yeah, it's an okay bookAbout a GREAT MOVIE.Mostly anecdotes, photographs, brief takes on many of the actors and other professionals responsible for putting this GREAT movie together. But hey, I read it and kept saying, yes, I know that; yes that was a great scene; yes but where is the one about Teri Garr's knockers?(I'm female btw, married, three kids.)Anyhowa bit of a boring read, not very insightful, not a lot of depth and there COULD BE with a GREAT movie like this.Three - yawn - stars .
This is so far away from my usual reading material that I have very few shelves to put this on. However, it was loads of fun to read. Of course, the problem is, now I want to read what else Mel Brooks has written on Young Frankenstein, and watch the movie! If you are a fan of the movie, you really need to treat yourself to this book!
I loved the movie and found this book entertaining.
If you loved the film, you will love and appreciate this Valentine from Mel Brooks. If you have never seen the movieI'll wait
Hugely enjoyable retelling of the making of one of my favorite comedies. A quick read that will cheer you up.
Good back drop to the making-of the film, and the photographs are great. However I wish it had a considerable amount more in the way of information from the perspective of Gene Wilder. It was Wilder's initial idea presented to Brooks for the movie. There is plenty of stuff regarding Gene Wilder, but I don't believe as much credit as deserved for the original idea is offered. With that said; Brooks films without Wilder were always lacking (as were many of Wilder's directed films without Brooks he [...]
ORIGINALLY POSTED: bibliomantics/2016/11/04/A behind-the-scenes look at the iconic comedy Young Frankenstein as told by director Mel Brooks himself. From the film’s early beginnings to its theatrical release, iconic characters and actors, the story is weaved by Brooks along with accompanying materials, such as film scripts, interviews with the cast and crew and never-before-seen photographs. A must have for fans!
Young Frankenstein is easily one of my favorite movies, so I loved seeing all of the pictures from the set and reading the stories about how this movie came to be. If you love the movie, I highly recommend reading this book.
Fun read for any fan of Mel Brooks or the movie, "Young Frankenstein!)
My husband got me hooked on Young Frankenstein. I was in love with the name Abigail. He said, “You mean, Abbey? Abbey Normal?” which meant I had to see the origin of the quote which meant a watching of the movie. And what followed was an even deeper adoration of Gene Wilder and an appreciation for all things Mel Brooks. When Gene Wilder died this year, a marathon of his movies graced the television airwaves. Thus, Young Frankenstein played in the background as I moved about the house doing la [...]
Let me first date that I am a very finest reviewer. Young Frankenstein is, in my humble opinion, the funniest movie ever made.Growing up, I watched this movie every chance I could get whenever it appeared on TV. Later, we wore out the VHS cassette we have recorded it onto after countless viewings. This is one of only a handful of movies that never gets old for me. It’s that good. Even though I can recite every line, I still laugh at every joke. Mel, himself, reads the audio version and is a de [...]
It's not much of a read but a book is a book, right? Besides, how could I resist -- even if it was so ever brief -- the story of the making of one of my top five comedies of all time. Seriously, for me, this film is nearly perfect and beautifully hilarious on several levels. Given my high regard for the movie, I couldn't help but enjoy all the behind the scenes details and insights into the making of this classic. If you're a fan, I recommend the book. It's not much more than an extended Mental [...]
Fabulous behind the scenes photos (and for once, these look amazing on a Kindle reader - even when made larger) and fun anecdotes on the making of Mel's masterpiece YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. While the photos were great (including COLOR shots), I finished wanting more in the way of informational text to accompany the quotes and stories. The basic story of how the film came to be is here and as entertaining as you might think, even with a lack of hard research or even how the film fits into Brooks' film [...]
This was an impulse check out at the library one day. A very quick read with lots of pictures. I'd recommend reading this book immediately after watching the movie, as otherwise you'll struggle to remember some of the scenes that the book talks about. It was an interesting short read about the making of the book. The pictures of the set and make up were interesting. I'd like to see a Blazing Saddles version.
I picked up the audiobook for this one and boy what a difference it made. I had it on while I was in the car commuting to and from school, and it was done excellently, having each person that tells a story during the book voice their own stories with the main voice being Mel was great, the jokes that I didn't find funny reading it had me cracking up in my car with his delivery. If you're going to read it, buy the audiobook instead!
I saw this at least 3 times in the theater when it first came out and I was a mere lad of 14. Watching it again these many years later revived fond memories and was not at all the disappointment that I feared it might be. Gene Wilder is brilliant and the supporting cast is top notch. So revisiting it all through this book (in word and picture and dialogue from the movie), and learning some of the background of how it got made, was also a treat. Mel Brooks considers this film his best. Yep.
What a fun way to re-visit my favorite movie!! I've read all of the trivia on , this just reinforced the fun things and it was great to hear much of it FROM Mel Brooks. I, of course, had to watch the movie again - and it (of course again) holds up as one of the funniest, most charming movies in our collection. Loved this Book!
If I could go back in time, I would go back to 1974 because Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder were working on Blazing Saddles AND Young Frankenstein!! Meeting Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, and Cloris Leachman would be a dream come true! And when they would do previews of Young Frankenstein, I would sit next to Anne Bancroft and we would be the loudest people in the audience!!
My library had the CD/Audio version, and I didn't want that, since I wanted to see the production pics. You could blow thru this book in two nights, but don't. There are pics you haven't seen and all sorts of little interviews through the whole production process.
I put this on reserve at the local library the moment I heard it was coming out. Unfortunately, this turned out to be more of a coffee table book for die-hard fans than anything else. Not very substantive.
This was really more of a "picture" cleverly laid out with great moments in making of the movie. Included some funny move lines, recollections of the cast and crew, and, of course, Brooks' zany memoirs.Funny and to the point. And, now I have to see the movie again.
A wonderful behind-the-scenes look at one of the greatest comedies ever made, complete with color photos, production notes, and commentary from the cast and crew. Mel Brooks' anecdotes are often as funny as the movie itself.
Funny memoriesI love this book, it has taken me behind the scenes of one of my favorite movie of all time. Reading the stories and seeing the pictures are wonderful, I recommend it to all movie buffs.
Disappointing. Reads like a long magazine article
so much fun! always enjoy hearing "behind the scenes" stories. I might see the movie in a different light dunno, guess I'm "forced" to watch it again.
Essential read for fans of Young Frankenstein.
This was a super fun glimpse into the making of the movie. There's nothing too deep there, but Mel has a great voice.
Incredibly shallow detail
A nice glimpse behind the scenes of the movie, I really enjoyed the interjections of cast and crew interviews and oc, Brooks' recollections of the time.
