I was enjoying this, the first in the series, until I reached the ending. Just a bit too far fetched. Since when does a realistic cozy mystery morph into a fairy story? Disappointing really, but I will try the next in the series and hope it does better as the retirement home setting and the characters are well done.
The main character, Lilliana, is in her seventies and lives in a retirement community. A rival African Violet grower is murdered and Lilliana becomes the chief suspect. Taking advice from a resident/former detective, she is able to uncover clues to help the young and inexperienced police chief solve the murder. I really liked this short story, until the end. Though slight, the touch of fantasy seemed out of place. Still, a delightful story.
Beauty, a Secret Wonderland, and LossI thoroughly enjoyed this puzzle of a mystery from its delightful characters to the surprise secret near the end. I was saddened with our heroine by the sudden loss at the end, but it fit the story line perfectly. I look forward to the next mysteries.
Interesting setting in a retirement village shows that people still want friends, love, interests in their lives, great not boring bland food and are fascinated by mysteries. Lilliana grows African violets and I learned some valuable hints. For once I didn’t guess the murderer and the story was well written with an interesting twist at the end. Looking forward to more in this series.
African Violets MurderThis is the story of a murder of a woman who is a member of the African violets club at a retirement home. Lilianna follows clues to try to discover the murderer. The editing in this book was very good and the characters were well developed. A delightful read. Highly recommend this book.
WowI enjoyed this book immensely. Lilliana loves her plants (like me) and she lives in a retirement village (like me) , she is a wonderful character, and has a wonderful surprise at the end of the book.
Floral MurderI liked this book and it's very surprising ending. Nothing had prepared me for it. I can usually work out who did it and why, but not this time. The characters were fantastic and varied. I want to read a lot more books by this author.
CaptivatingIt's am amazing story about African Violets and elderly people of retirement age. They show that just because you're old doesn't mean you've ur life has stopped. The loss of one's partner, sexual desires, and companionship are still desired I one's life.
A true CozyA heartwarming cozy with a lot of nice people. The story holds your interest and teaches you a bit about growing African violets. I would recommend this book.
Nice CozyThis is a nice clean cozy about a widow who finds a woman murdered with her softball bat. There is also just a touch of fantasy. Rated G
It was very good. At first I had my doubts, but as usual I read things I start till the end and it turned out to be entertaining. And I learned something about African Violets.
Thoroughly enjoyed this unusual senior citizen's cozy mystery! Lots of twists and turns with a very surprising finish. Highly recommend you read this one!
A good read.A great fast read with loveable characters. This book has a twist ending I never saw coming . I was like what!
The first in my African Violet Club series introducing Lilliana Wentworth, a retired librarian who enjoys raising African violets and solving murders.
Read this for Kitsap Book Challenge - 2016 publish
I was drawn to this book because at one time I grew African violets, and the mystery revolves an African violet club and show. Also, the sleuth is a senior citizen, as I am, and her name is Lilliana (mine is Lillian). And, of course, I love cozy mysteries. So this seemed like the perfect book.It started out well. I found Lilliana's health and fitness self-righteousness a little off-putting (I'm one of those senior citizens who takes a lot of meds and uses a walker, the kind of people she looks d [...]
I enjoyed this cozy mystery set in at the Rainbow Ranch Retirement Community ,outside Benson,Az.We are introduced to Lilliana Wentworth,a resident of the community involved with the African Violet Club.We see lots of suspense as Lilliana discovers a murder, becomes a suspect and works to prove her innocence, to the chagrin of the local sheriff. The characters were memorable and description of the Retirement Community was entertaining.Kudos to the author on the ending and the delightful surprise.
Great Read! This was a great read! Constantly kept me wondering and guessing who actually did what. You'd never think murder could happen at such a place. I would definitely recommend this if you like murder mysteries
DifferentI was skeptical about this story at first but as I kept reading I was intent on finding out who killed betty. Th ending was unexpected.
Goodthe murder of a woman who was very corrupt and very unlikable with her neighborse was blackmailing many of her neighbours
Here's hoping that I will be so enterprising, entertaining and inquisitive when I get to the age of many of the members of the African Violets Club!A very enjoyable cozy mystery!
I'm a fan of cozy mysteries if they don't border on the ridiculous. This one went over that border. It was silly and unrealistic in characters and plot.
This book was ok. There wasn't really anything I disliked about it. It just didn't hold my interest as much as mysteries usually do.
