I was surprised that this book is about a little boy looking for his cake on his birthday. I really thought the illustration and cover was targeted towards a female audience. It doesn't mention that it's a boy on the back cover either. I'm not sure if it's the pink highlights in the main characters hair or my own bias that a book with shiny reflective artwork can only ever be for girls. Regardless it is a simple story of hide and seek for baby's birthday.

cute cute cute, good for todlers

This series of books never fails to hit the mark with little ones and this book is definitely no exception! It is one of my favorites and I always read it when one of my boys or girls have a birthday! In fact, we read it the entire birthday week!Baby looks everywhere for her cake. Even the littlest readers will eagerly turn the flaps hoping that the cake is hidden there!Beautifully illustrated and lots of fun, this book is definitely a keeper!

So many little things I didn't like about this one. At first glance I was happy to see an androgynous baby, but that was quickly quashed when I saw that the child is specifically gendered. It's good the baby won't know when you change the pronoun or just call the character "baby." I also didn't like that the guests (a pile of teddy bears) are called "party friends," which is such an awkward phrase. Lastly, ice cream in the fridge?? Where are mommy and daddy's brains?

My daughter received this book as a gift for her birthday! She loved seeing what was behind each flap. It really kept her attention. She liked the colors, pictures, and the texture of some of the drawings( some of them are shiny). The story is simple so it's perfect for her age (12 months). Overall a really fun book!

It's definitely an adorable Karen Katz book, and let's not lie, BABIES LOVE LIFTING FLAPS. But what I don't like is the fact that baby is explicitly referred to as "he". Seriously, why is the baby gendered? Also, ice cream in the refrigerator? What? Huh?

This book was actually better than most of Karen Katz's material, in my opinion. The shiny surface of some of the hidden objects adds a dimension of sensory experience.

I think it is a good book for toddlers who love birthday theme. it covers items usually around during birthday.

My 18-month old niece really loves this book! She gets so excited lifting the flaps and looking at the pictures and the words. I like the pictures, the colors, and the sparkle.

Katzh. Feel like a doofus reading these, but Libby likes them

Easy. Good for babies.
