This is the second in the Bishop/Special Crimes Unit Series by Kay Hooper. I really liked this one, but probably not as much as the first one. This novel is based on another member of the SCU. You get to know Quentin who was introduced briefly in the first novel of the series, Hunting Fear. The story line goes in a different direction from Hunting Fear. There's still the paranormal, but the crimes being investigated are weird. I don't want to divulge any more than that. It could spoil it for someo [...]
I've been a fan of Kay Hooper's writing since I picked up her first book many years ago. Chill of Fear has a little less action than some of her others but, for me, it was just as good. The story centers around Diana, a woman coming to terms with her ability as a medium. There's mystery, an emerging romance and, of course, the paranormal world of ghosts and extrasensory abilities. This is part of the ongoing Bishop/Special Crimes Unit series, though it is also broken down into the separate 'Fear [...]
The first book I've downloaded from my public library to Kindleo cool
3.5 StarsHaunted hotels with long histories and lots of secrets, paranormal murder mysteries with psychic FBI agents, and a woman who can see ghosts and walk with the dead Chill of Fear pretty much has Ani-bait written all over it… despite the fact that the summary doesn’t really do much justice for the depth of story that this book covers. Then again, having so much plot going on in the background as well as so much plot going on in the forefront only tends to make one a little confused. Ev [...]
Tension, Romance and Psychic MurdersCHILL OF FEAR is one of the best of the Bishop/Special Crime Unit series. While I have complained about some of the previous entries because of the short shrift given to the romance in this series of paranormal romantic suspense books, this book is pretty darn good even though it ends with just the beginning of what might be termed the actual romance. THE STORY: Special Agent Quentin Hayes has been obsessed with a murder that happened twenty-five years ago. He [...]
Quentin Hayes always knew he was different, even as a child. Finally, after joining the FBI’s Special Crimes Unit he has a place where he feels he belongs. But, Quentin has another problem besides his psychic abilities. He experienced a horrible tragedy as a child, while staying at The Lodge. This hotel placed in the middle of nowhere Tennessee is quite known for its ability to hide secrets and indiscretions. Quentin has made it a lifelong obsession to solve the mystery of his childhood friend [...]
Quentin Hayes and Noah Bishop are part of the FBI’s Special Crimes Unit. Members use there special “talents” to investigate the paranormal. Hayes keeps returning to an aging resort in Tennessee where a child died twenty-five years ago when he and his family were vacationing. Diana Brisco has been haunted by strange nightmares and visions most of her life so her doctor suggests she spend some time at this retreat drawing as a way to relax. Immediately things start happening. She draws a pic [...]
When I bought this book 3 years ago I had placed it on my bookshelf with good intentions of reading it sooner. I am kicking myself now for taking so long. This book is about a Special Crime Unit of the FBI that is composed of psychics. These psychics solve crimes and fall in love and generally help each other to excel with their psychic abilities. This book is about Quentin Hayes trying to solve a crime that he had the misfortune of witnessing as a child. One of his best friends is murdered and h [...]
Another Bishop Special Crimes Unit book. I love her books about psychics, both old characters and new. The story keeps you guessing right up to the end.
Anything by Kay Hooper is a terrific read. She will capture your attention on the first page and about the time you think you know what is going to happen she will throw in a twist that you won't see coming. I started reading Kay's books right after she started being published. She is still my favorite author. I've read all of her books and have never been disappointed in anything that I've read. There is some mild language, almost all of her books have a touch of the paranormal/esp and a specia [...]
I don't know how I would feel if I spent most of my life being told I am crazy only to find out that my father was lying to me regardless of the cause. Instead of showing compassion he would be such a cold hearted butthead. This definately took to a book of strange. The fact that they both were tied to this one single location where all the pieces came together to solve more than one more murder over the centuries.I do feel cheated only because we never really got an explanation from the father a [...]
"Un hotel que esconde muchos secretos, crímenes sin resolver y unos protagonistas con poderes paranormales son los elementos que dan forma a esta historia que entretiene y que mejora a medida que avanza. Las primeras y las últimas páginas son las que le hacen perder puntos al libro".Reseña completa: entrelalecturayelcineSi pudiera, le daría un 3,5/5, pero es que darle un 4 me parece demasiado porque creo que no se le sacó el suficiente provecho a algunos detalles de la trama
An interesting twist in this installment of the Bishop Special Crimes Unit series. Someone is killing people at a remote lodge, but it isn't the average killerbut then they never are with this series. Great character development as usual and it was great to see characters from earlier books make a reappearance. The plot was layered, twisted and complicated in all the right ways. If you like a good paranormal mystery then I definitely recommend this book and series to you.
Very interesting read. Kept my interest, good character development, on to the next one.
My most fav. of all from Kay Hoopers Bishop series
Def better than the last one. missing some of the romantic build up one would expect in this series but I enjoyed the twist of a non scu detective being the primary psychic to solve the mystery
I couldn't finish this book because the last cd was corrupt
I disliked this book.
Some of Kay Hooper's stories rely more on the paranormal aspect than others and I have to start by saying that I prefer it when we have a flesh and blood antagonist. But this is a story that it is heavy in the paranormal aspect. Over a years, a number of crimes were commeited at The Lodge, a vacation resort. Quenting Hayes, one of Bishop's agent was involved in one succh cases when he was a child and and is very much commited to finding out the culprit. Diana Brisco, is a young woman who is atte [...]
Okay, so once again my warning, do not read this before bedtime because it will give you nightmares with ghosts hanging from ceilings and little girls crying with blood dripping. Maybe that's a bit exaggerated, actually it fits the story. That's the level of horror we're talking about here.At first, Diana seems like this very disillusioned person who doesn't really know what she wants. She gets plagued with these visions of a girl who keeps asking for her help. Then this guy aka Quentin Hayes ap [...]
New York Times bestselling author Kay Hooper turns up the heat even as she chills readers to the bone with a new suspense novel that distills the essence of fear itself. Kay Hooper's Chill of Fear is about Quentin and Diana and their special binding to an old Hotel. Quentin is an FBI agent and part of the Special Crimes Unit (SCU) who is obscessed with a murder from his past. Diana is a woman looking for a cure for what she thinks is mental illness. The two are brought together at The Lodge by forces unknown to them in order to help solve a string of murders, as well as find answers to both of their pasts. I enjoyed the book, it was light and a quick read. While [...]

Psychics and mediums and evil, oh my! Bishop’s band of federal agents is back, this time focusing on Quentin Hayes and a haunted hotel located in the Tennessee Mountains. When Quentin was a boy he summered at The Lodge, a prestigious hotel known for its secrecy. While there, a young girl, his friend, was killed and it has haunted Quentin ever since. Now an adult, Quentin spends his vacations at The Lodge hoping to uncover the mystery of what happened to his friend as well as trying to uncover [...]
Usually a Kay Hooper book, especially from the Bishop/Special Crimes Unit is a special treat, weaving strong suspense, fascinating facts about psychic abilities and a strong sense of a who-done it, with a strong romantic element. In this particular novel the focus was on FBI agent Quentin Hayes who is seeking answers to a chilling disappearance and murder that happened to a child hood friend. Good premise. Then enters Diana Brisco who has her own demons to exercise. The plot - who or what was re [...]
This book is excellent as a lead in to the next book in the series, as we are introduced to Diana and some of the team members. Diana sees ghosts, and always has, and in this story she is in a retreat in the mountains where she meets Quentin, was has spent much of his life trying to discover why his little friend, Missy, was murdered. The cross relationship and histories of the two main characters was well done, as were the children and ghosts who currently inhabit the area. Another well done are [...]
A really good suspense with plenty of paranormaljust the right amount of physical danger and psychic/ghost creepiness. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like Quentin was fleshed out very well, so it was hard to identify with him outside of the, "isn't he a nice hero?" reaction. Diana on the other hand was very fleshed out and was a very strong, likeable heroine. There's an undercurrent of romance brewing between the two, but nothing overt (view spoiler)[ until the last page(hide spoiler)]. I really d [...]
4 years agoThis is one of my favourite Hooper books! It is spooky, suspenseful, romantic and smart.Quentin is a wonderful character, who's passion for finding and stopping evil will draw you in as he tries to find and stop whatever the "old evil" that is haunting a beautiful picturesque resort, and has now started killing people.Enter Diana, resort guest who's trying to stop horrible nightmares and blackouts. When she and Quentin join forces, the realization (unwillingly at first) that she is ps [...]
Found this in a bargain bin at a flea market. Slightly tattered, well read, dog-eared exactly what I'm looking for when I'm there because I want either something I'm familiar with but haven't read OR something unfamiliar that seems promising, this was the latter. Overall I enjoyed this book a lot. Nothing earth shattering and luckily I wasn't held up by not having read the 1st book. I love the idea of a protagonist who is incredibly powerful but also extremely broken and anything super natural i [...]
