This was a story about the healing of the hearts of Duncan, Patrick and his little sister Wendy. Duncan has just came out of a bad break-up that has left him depressed with no hope for the future he was so close to having. Patrick and his younger sister Wendy are still trying to heal and deal with the death of their parents and all the changes in their lives that has come since their passing. Loss of any parent is hard, but to have them go at the same time is truly tragic. I loved Patrick from t [...]
3 OK stars (I liked it, but it was bordering on so-so)Normally I would be appreciative of a longer length m/m but to be truthful I started to just get really annoyed with Duncan, and slightly bored. So much so that I began to read slowly - and you know it's a bad sign when Candy Crush Saga on your phone becomes more interesting than your kindle (I'm not an addict like some out there so this was not typical). I found Patrick very sweet - almost too much so. I think he might have been a bit more i [...]
I would have rated this higher but I hated Duncan's wishy washy behavior. I ADORED Patrick (and Wendy grew on me). I do think that Wendy was supposed to be 9, but she acted like a teenager, but then there were times when she acted 9. Did I mention I loved Patrick?! In the end, I enjoyed this :)JAILBAIT! HA!
This turned out to be a bit of a conundrum. The writing needs a lot of maturing and refining. A lot. The phrasing and sentence structure are so simple it almost hurts (especially in the narrative) – yet the dialogue is frequently cute, fun and even poignant, despite the lack of polish. In some ways (particularly in tone) this felt very much like a kiddie book, a circumstance that taints the sexual references somewhat, at least at first. Later on either I got used to the style or the sexual aspec [...]
Lovely story. I liked all the characters in this one, especially Wendy. She is one spunky girl. Duncan has had his heart broken and is understandably leery of starting another relationship. He seems to have placed the entire blame on the previous boyfriend's age instead of on the fact that he was a user and a cheat. Duncan has a lot of heartache to deal with and resists Patrick's dogged pursuit. At least when he isn't looking at him or hearing him or imagining him. Patrick was so persistent that [...]
Perfect how older guy Duncan with a broken heart meets his new hot neighbor Patrick and his ornery sister. My only complaint is that in the beginning of the book I thought the sister was much older than 9, so throughout the book that kept throwing me off. Sometimes she would act and say things like a normal 9 year old girl would, and other times I kept picturing her as 17 or 18, so it was awkward. Duncan and Patrick were awesome together and I loved the happy ending.
I thought it was sweet, fluffy entertaining read, not a lot of angst between Patrick and Duncan the MC's. Enjoyable light read--Wendy the character, the little sister, made the ratings from 2 -3; this would take you down from a gut wrenching read.
A sweet love story. Amazing Duncan's reluctance to move on from his bad relationship didn't irritate me, which I put down to the author. The MCs were lovely and it was a pleasurable read.
I just kind of adore Solet's gay-dad-meets-perfect-boyfriend books. Low on drama, high on sincerity, with kids who are genuine participants in the forming of a family. It made me feel good.
