It probably goes without saying that you can take this "review" with a grain of salt. I wrote the book, so I'm proud of it. Obviously, perhaps. Weird though it might sound, I honestly believe this is the better of the two Northwoods books to date. Just wait until the third.Regarding this novel, there's a mild change in direction that turns the fearless, unstoppable, uncompromising Penn into what has been taken by some as a stumbling fool. Was that intentional? Somewhat, I suppose, but I really h [...]
Rebellion in Northwoods picks up almost six months after the events of Fugitives from Northwoods took place.Pen and Cesswi have gained temporary asylum in Alberta, but while Cesswi is relatively content, Penn is restless - and while their life in Alberta is undoubtedly better than it was before, I can't help but feel they've just swapped one prison for another. This is something Penn is aware of, but is having a hard time convincing Cess - until a series of events ceases to be merely coincidenta [...]
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.I have not read the first book in the series, but was able to jump right in and understand the story. The characters are relatable & I found myself caring about their futures.I look forward to reading more by this author.
2.5 starsPlot- 6.5/10Characters- 7.5/10Writing- 8/10World Building- 8.5/10TOTAL- 7.3/10Review- *I was provided with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.*It's been a while (about a week) since I finished this book, so excuse me if my memory fails me at some point in this review. Rebellion in Northwoods picks up a couple of months after Fugitives in Northwoods left off; Penn and Cesswi are now in the Federation of Alberta, and they are now forced to decide if they want to stay or if they [...]
Firstly I'd like to thank Chris Bostic for giving me this book in exchange for a honest review Well That was just as great and suspenseful as the last book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rebellion and seeing what happened to Penn and his crew of escapees. I was saddened in parts when we saw some of our favourites injured and was at the edge of my seat most of the book waiting to see if they finally succeeded in returning home. Cess and Penn seem to have differences of opinions of the Albertan Fed [...]
First of all, I would like to thank Chris Bostic for providing me a free copy in exchange for an honest review. It took me a while after finishing this book to figure out how to rate it. I really enjoyed the first book, finishing it in a day, but I feel like this book lacked some of what I loved about the first one. My main concern is that the dynamics of the characters in this book were a bit different. Where Penn was the strong one with all of the answers in the first book, Cesswi became the h [...]
The main characters Penn and Cesswi are just teens trying to make it all work out in a work camp, when everything gets turned upside down. This is the second book in the series and I have not read the first but am going to be reading it very soon. The story is about these teens that have escaped a harsher reality than what they now live but as things change their reality becomes hell. All, any of them want, is to go home. As the camp they are in is attacked, they see their chance to escape but t [...]
This book starts off just after the first one ended. Once again the teens find themselves trapped in a life they need to escape from, but now they're caught in the middle of a war in which they just want to get away from. Romance is still there (these are hormonal teenagers after all), even with all the distractions, injuries, and death surrounding them at every turn. The love triangle from the first book makes a brief appearance here as well, but there must be more drama with that to come. The w [...]
Good dystopian YA fiction. I read the first book over a year ago, so I had to catch up with this one. It took a bit, so make sure you read in order and one right after the other. The book is set in Canada and the northwoods of Wisconsin, (I am a Wisconsinite) so dear to my heart. Two main characters are around eighteen. Pretty good character development, lots of action. No swearing or sexual content, there is some violence. I can recommend for ages 14 and up. I give "Rebellion in the Northwoods" [...]
I really hoped to like this book and I did finish it and it was a good premise, well told. The thing is I just came to dislike Penn when he continually had "accidents" just walking around. I expected more of my hero. He also didn't seem to be able to make a decision without consulting Cesswi, or to speak up. I was a bit disappointed, but if there is a number three in this series I will read it.
I loved this one even more than the first book. The development was unexpected. Stuck in a dystopian version of Canada, Penn and his crew quickly figure out that what they thought would be freedom isn't quite as good as they'd hoped. Really looking forward to the third part!
