Ever since Nancy first brainstormed the plot of The Husband Diet with all of us in Matera, I’ve been longing to read it. The story of Erica, a plus-sized woman who put aside her own dreams to help her egocentric husband get his business off the ground. Fast forward twelve years and Erica is still putting her wants aside for the sake of Ira, who still hasn’t managed to get his business going. But now Erica has two kids to think about. And then there’s Erica’s shallow mother, Marcy, who se [...]
Wow if this is Nancy's debut book I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. Absolutely loved this book with its emotional highs, lows, laughs and tears. Have you ever felt that a diet just isn't enough? That the dead weight your carrying runs deeper than the extra few pounds you gained over the years? If so then you need the Husband Diet. You'll shed the pounds and gain a confidence that you haven't seen in years. Of course finding your own personal Julian is one thing every woman needs.
A real easy enjoyable read , loved it
I initially liked the 3 books in this series as chick lit in the genre. The Husband DietMy Big Fat Italian Break-UpRomance, Rivals and RavioliBut then I realised that our heroine wasn’t fat at all! She was a larger size than her mother and sisters true, but I looked up the weight to height ratios on the health sites and found that 78 kilos at 5 foot 10 inches is just within the normal range. And is probably a UK size 14. US size 10/12. True at 88 kilos she was overweight - not obese but and she [...]
Not quite the hilarious read I was hoping for - quite tragic really.Having read a story last week about a husband on a diet that literally had me laugh out loud on most pages, I just felt really sorry and sad for the character - the wife - incidentally - in this book. That asside, it was quite a good read; pure fantasy mind you. The writing was quite good, although there were quite a few repetitions if phrases or sentences which I find irritating but most people would probably not even notice. I [...]
Generally quite entertainingI nearly gave up on this book about 5 chapters in as I was a bit bored, but I'm glad I stuck it out. Narrative has a tendency to be a bit repetitive, hence it is a bit tedious in places, however the storyline is endearing and I ultimately quite enjoyed it.
The husband djetI chose 5 star's because this book is funny in a romantic way. I loved this book and would recommend it to everyone I know. Absolutely brilliant.
Fantastic readLoved this book. Couldn't put it down. It has great normal characters a few twists and turns with a happy ending.
Fun!I'm glad it ended the way it did, though there were a few bumps in the path along the way, it was a good read. I would love to know what happened with Ira.
Easy light read not intense but was though predictable at times but not boring. Enjoyable and fun to read.
Loved itCouldn't put this down. I loved this book and would recommend it to all. It's a funny romantic story that your sure to enjoy.
Light hearted enjoyable holiday read.
funniest book I've read for a while.
When I was approached by Oliver at Bookoutre, about Nancy Barone’s debut novel The Husband Diet, I took one look at the cover (it’s beautiful), one quick peek of the synopsis and I was sold. I started it immediately, as by a very nice quirk of fate, I’d just finished my latest Kindle read and was on the lookout for the next and The Husband Diet was it. The Husband Diet was a spunky debut, and I loved Erica Cantelli. Everyone needs an Erica Cantelli in their life, and they DEFINITELY need a [...]
Originally reviewed at Novel EscapesThe Husband Diet has all the makings of a funny, down to earth book about a disastrous love followed by finding “the one”. It’s not going to really take you down any unexpected paths but I really enjoyed the novel for a number of reasons.Firstly, Erica’s husband is a pig and there’s no reason at all to like him. Because this is clear from the get go we’re not messing around trying to see what she saw in him and we’re free to accept her quick tran [...]
Most people will see this as a great summer read, which it certainly is, the light humor is there, the love scenes and the satisfying ending that you expect for this type of book. However, this is a novel with something more than run-of-the-mill Chick Lit: it has an attractive main character, 'amazing Erica', that makes you want to know more about her. Her Italian background is intriguing, her comments about her husband are spot on, soon you find yourself rooting for her. And hopefully there wil [...]
The Husband Diet is Nancy Barone's debut novel and after reading it I have to say a pretty good one at that! This debut features Erica Cantelli is a mother whose husband Ira tells her constantly that she needs to lose weight. It didn't take me long to like the main character Erica and you can tell by the way her life is that her sole focus is her children and husband. It also didn't take me too long to loathe the selfish and pig-headed husband. Erica's mother is also a hideous woman who does not [...]
I would think a lot of downtrodden, underappreciated wives would identify with Erica. There are just too many Ira out there for sure. Men who are selfish and horrible who somehow got lucky by marrying good, loyal, dedicated women. Only in reality, there are hardly any Julians out there. The book is quite enjoyable. The story is a bit too far fetched in some parts and the progression of Erica and Julian's love seemed sudden and jumpy (no pun intended) in most parts. A lot of things fall too much [...]
What a thoroughly enjoyable book. Can poor Erica break away from vile, deadbeat husband Ira and make something of her life with hot headmaster,Julian? She's a very likeable character, flawed but strong and determined - and fiercely protective of her children. Her dream is to move to Tuscany and lose weight and we are often left wondering whether she will achieve either. The storyline is inspiring, funny and warm and will have you racing to the end where there are a couple of twists waiting.
One star = generous. As bad as a published book can get - I was almost too embarrassed to admit I read it (well, read the first quarter and skimmed the rest). I was looking for a light & funny beach read, but this one was a brain cell killer. Do yourself a favor and read something else. Anything else. Yes, that bad.
Great storyIt was a great story deserving five stars and more. What I liked about this story is that it was honest and open for the world to see how a (fat) person really feels.I will tell anyone who will listen to read this book be they fat or thin. The eating disorder is something a lot of people should look at. Thank you NANCY Barons good work.
Absolutely adored this book. The heroine is so real and down to earth, every woman can relate to her, I think. I definitely did. She is funny, honest, real, bouncing back from whatever mishap life throws at her. All the characters are beautifully realised and I especially liked Paul. Cannot wait for the sequel.
So, Erica doesn't relate to her husband, interaction with her father is non existent and she magically does everything right with a former baseball star? Doesn't add up for me. She is so fierce at work but doesn't stand up to her husband or mother. There were funny situations but I never found Erica very likable. Read it if you have nothing else to read.
Enjoyed this book but found the writing and story to be a bit choppy. There wasn't a flow to the storyline and it jumped from one spot to another pretty quickly. Was especially disappointed in the character of Ira and the ending. But, still found the book to be sweet. Some laugh out loud moments and related to the main character.
Better than TirimasuEnjoyed this story very much reading it in one go. Only one gripe Erica's marriage was over bar the ink drying on the divorce papers, she has already got a new lover, and yet she is supposedly heartbroken when Ira leaves. I would've been helping him pack his gear, sat on the suitcase and paid his busfare! Good light read.
I laughed so hardNancy Barone is the Erma Bombeck of fiction. I wish they would turn this book into a movie. I LOVE the main character. Wish the love interest wasn't quite so perfect, but that is my only criticism.
Good readErica's situation at the beginning is very easy to relate too. The ending seemed a little rushed to wrap everything up. I think many women can and will relate to this story.
I nhs/oneyou/how-are-you# it would be about a relationship but WOW! What a journey Erica goes on! You will laugh & cry.Bad relationship gone wrong. WOW what a journey of emotions Erica goes on! You will be right there with her
This is a sweet, well-done book about falling out of love and back in love again. It is also about a woman's relationship with food and weight loss and the pressure to be a good mother---and what happens when your husband doesn't find you attractive anymore.
Was ok but not my sort of read
