Free | A less obvious plot than many of Wentworth's books, but two serious irritations | This definitely stands out as being one of her more creative stories. That said, Susan's constant insistence that she couldn't explain a couple simple, relatively unimportant things about a man who was basically a sociopath, with no explanation of why she couldn't explain them, was beyond stupid. Also, I get the whole superiority of the lord of the manor thing, but when someone has nearly succeeded in murder [...]
I suppose the mystery was good not that I enjoyed it one bit. Its not often that one comes across a book where the enjoyment of the story is spoilt because of a deep dislike for one or more characters. Well, this book accomplished that for me. I loathed the character of young Susan from beginning to end. A petty character, with not a single indication of any strength of character. However the whole book is written with this character as the centrepiece! I don't mind poor characters in modern boo [...]
A pretty good mystery.I liked it better than the one Miss Silver mystery I read a long time ago by this author. I may try more. I know lots of people like her books.
Another enjoyable read by Wentworth.
Really fun old romance, great plot and just a really neat book by one of my favorite authors. Read this in the openlibrary's lending library.
