Stockings, Bubble Baths - What's Not to Like?As I learned from the introduction written by comic-book historian Ron Goulart, Brenda Starr made her first appearance in the pages of the Chicago Tribune newspaper insert in 1940, before graduating to a nationally syndicated newspaper strip. This book reprints Brenda Starr #1-8 from the late 1940s - the early issues are newspaper-strip reprints, the later ones the first comic-book adaptations of the character, produced by the Jerry Iger Shop. Lots of telling. Not to mention, I found it confusing to read sometimes; things seemed to jump around. The inclusion of the oneshots in between the regular strips confused me when I hit the first one. Rampant sexism throughout, a sign of the times. Kind of ref [...]
