A coming of age story mixed with folklore and adventure in a historic setting makes this book an intriguing read. The author's mix of Cherokee legend and romance gives a dream like quality. You begin with Landon as a boy and end with him as a man and all the while your are engaged as he sets on his journey. A long book but definitely worth the effort to read. The writing itself is captivating and I would not hesitate to read another book by this author.I was provided a review copy courtesy of Pr [...]

Where to start with this reveiw? This book is unlike anything that I've read recently. It is the story of a young boy, Landon Hampshire, coming of age in turn of the century rural North Carolina. It is a complex story filled with well developed charaters. The writing style is unusual and almost has the meter of the dialect of North Carolina. At time it felt like I was reading Huck Finn. It is filled with beautiful descriptions, mysticism, ghosts, and Native Cherokee legends mixed together to for [...]

The dedication is both poignant and beautifully writtenThe book itself starts out slow. As the story evolves, the reader is made aware of many things. The author is quite adept at the usage of metaphors. There is symbolic imagery, mysticism and ghosts, which emerge in the story lines. The story is set in North Carolina and with picturesque descriptions. The reader can be compared to the writing of style of Samuel Clemmens. However, I suggest that this book be place in a young adult genre. I am g [...]

A Diary's House is unlike anything I have read recently. The author C.David Murphy has a writing style that is quite unique. He is able to bring every character to life with unprecedented detail. The novel was written as a tribute to his deceased son and the story reflects his passion. He definitely puts his heart and soul into every page. It is a story of adventure, true love, romance and coming of age. This is a must read for all.Disclosure; My company Digital Publishing Expert owns the digita [...]

When a writer comes to review their own work, it becomes a tenuous ground to stand on. Any relevant praise will be considered bias if but for the mere lack of constructive criticism that a normal review may ultimately garner. A balanced, even approach is quite often required to fully encapsulate such a work in its correct lighting.I was reluctant to do as such for the aforementioned reasons above. I would press upon any reader/reviewer to relate and simply understand the immense task and require [...]

Truth be told, this book took a lot of effort to read. The sheer volume alone is daunting. Not that I am afraid of size having read many books by Stephen King as well as the entire Harry Potter series. But with a new author it made me a bit leery.I found it difficult to really dive into the book as well. The author has a strong propensity for description with a heavy emphasis on metaphor and simile. Most of the time I felt as though I was reading the love child of a dictionary and thesaurus. I t [...]

I’ll be honest and start this review by saying this was not the book for me. But, it will strike just that chord of WOW with other readers, and most of the issues that I had with the story are based in my own personal prejudices garnered from years of reading. I give this book 3.5 stars: with the realization that other readers will and do love this book – but the length and wordiness did not hold my interest in the way I had hoped it would. The author has created a beautiful story that feels [...]

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review. This is an interesting coming of age story. I really enjoyed it.Landon Hampshire is a very interesting character. He is a thirteen year old son of a well respected family living in Windrow Heights in North Carolina. I really liked this young lad. He is a curious and sensitive boy, but in a hurry to grow up. In the process, he ends up in the biggest adventure of his life.I was not sure, when I was approach [...]

A Diary's House did not speak to me at first. I read it on my kindle and the first 20% I kept thinking this is not a book for me. (Sorry C. David Murphy). For myself it started out really slowly and I was afraid it would not grab my attention. However , the story that unfolded was worth the wait. A beautiful tale of family, secrets and one heck of a love story . I loved the history of the Cherokee , the descriptions of the North Carolina lands and the adventures of Landon. Three boys set out to [...]

A Diary’s House: Where True Loves EnduresI have to say, after reading the dedication; it was difficult for me to pick up this book. My heart hurt for the Author. I found this book to be very descriptive and detailed. Almost as if the details were as important as the storyline. As for the storyline, I enjoyed it. The way he mixed in Cherokee lore with historical fiction really was great. The way he told of the boy becoming a man and the intensity and mixture of plots was interesting. On the who [...]

Lisa's review of "A Diary's House:  Where True Love Endures"By C. David Murphy I received a copy of "A Diary's House:  Where True Love Endures" by C. David Murphy in exchange for an honest review.  This was a good book a little hard at times to stay engaged but overall a good storyline.  It talks about a boy hear legends from his father and his coming of age.  The story is complex with the way he builds the characters to develop them in the directions that he is going.  If you are look [...]

C. David incorporates Cherokee Legends within this captivating historical romance which impressed me. While "A Diary's House" is not a fast read, you will have a hard time putting it down. The characters and plot were well written with plenty of adventure. This review is based on a complimentary copy which was provided for an honest review.

For anyone who has ever read and enjoyed books such as “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”, this warm and wonderful story is a must read! Read full review in the 2012 September issue of InD’tale Magazine.

I liked this book very much, but it was very wordyI am really into descriptive nature passages, but this was a little too much description, to the point of distraction sometimes. I loved the story and characters, though!
