Very clear overview of the many facets of book production. Without wider context, the information provided can be difficult to use. It would have been helpful to provide more studies of how one particular book (for example an average trade fiction paperback) was produced from start to finish. However there are plenty of case studies to illustrate each section and anyone working within a production department would probably be able to make good use of this book.
This is a short, dry read- but it is very informative, and I am sure I will return to is it a reference guide. The 2nd part is surprisingly useful, though I wanted to skip it originally (bear that in mind if, like me, you're just beginning your journey into publishing!)
Very detailed about the whole process, however for a reader who is not familiarised with publishing industry may be a bit confusing at the beginning.
A book that talks project management, XML workflow and outlines all the basic needs for print? Yes. Only problem is examples are in pounds and apply to distribution and printing in the UK.
