LIGHTHEARTED FUNJen is a seventeen year old genie. But what she really wants to do is play drums in her brother's band. When their drummer quits the opportunity arises, but that's when Leo turns up. He's a great drummer so Jen loses out. Leo is also a genie. Genies aren't allowed to fraternise. But then Jen agrees to help Leo save his father. This is a fairly quick read, that is suitable for a younger audience IMO. The authors style is flowing and the story is humorous and witty. I thought that J [...]

For 2/3 of this book I was planning on giving it 4 stars, however when we hit the last third all of the things that had bothered me in the first part now became worse and by the time I had finished it had lost 2 stars. So what was wrong? Well the genie concept was interesting but strangely enough this was never really explored. Alexander didn't ever explain how the genies grant wishes or how they managed to get from one place to another without arousing suspicion when they teleported. It was neve [...]

Jen is a genie and goes around to people who have earned enough Karma points and grants them three wishes. There are allot of rules in the genie world and one of the biggest is genie can't hang around each other but when Leo, a male (hottie) genie, comes to Jen asking for her help clearing his father of a crime he didn't commit she decides to to what she can to help.Loved this story lately everything is about vampires and witches so seeing something about Genie's is a nice change. I enjoyed seei [...]

I love the twist on the genie myth. It was a fun read.

The story was kind of all over the place. Jen doing genie stuff only happened maybe 3 times. There was a whole section about her dad making chili that she and her mom didn't like to eat and weather or not her brother Sean hit puberty kept popping up. When the little mystery about Leo's dad was solved, it was everything happening all at once. I know it was a short novel but the story would of been more interesting if the unimportant stuff was taken out and the main story was more filled in.

Jen just wants to have something normal in her life, now that a good portion of her time is spent working and granting wishes on behalf of the genie U.N.I.V.E.R.S.E. So when the drummer in her brother's band quits, all Jen wants is a chance to replace him. She's understandably pissed off when her brother goes behind her back and fills the spot before she even has a chance. When it turns out that Leo is not only her replacement as potential drummer, he's also a male genie, Jen is in deep trouble. [...]

Juli is a new to me author. I was sucked in my the prospect of Genie series. I mean we don't get genie very often now do we? Well, unfortunately what started out pretty well, started to quickly decay as far as world building and story flow go. I would like to mention the good point first. The idea was very unique and creative. I mean this story had a huge amount of potential. The whole U.N.I.V.E.R.S.E concept and how they used to bring up some civil rights undertones was kind of brilliant. The d [...]

Adorable!Three Wishes is a quick, cute read that I really loved.I love the idea of genies. I wish they were real and I wouldn’t mind having my own sexy genie man to grant me wishes.Jen is great. Except for a few things, she could be a great role model for many young girls. She seemed to care a little too much for what other people thought of her, but she was also very levelheaded. Although, I could have don’t without all the lying. That’s just something I can’t tolerate. Her relationship [...]

Living Life Blind On The Karma BeatThis series must be read in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to read the next one!Jen is a genie. She spends her life trying to be normal. Not that she has a chance! What with lying to her friends all the time about where she is when she is granting wishes and trying to keep up with her schoolwork it amazing she isn't flunking out. Being seventeen is hard enough for a normal teen girl, much less one with all her responsibilities! When Jen meets Leo s [...]

Ms. Alexander's originality and sense of humor always make for a delightful read. In this book, her heroine is a teenage genie. Yep, like the kind who used to be trapped in bottles. That's not true anymore, but the bestowing of three wishes is still one of their talents. Jen is certainly not your typical genie. She can only grant wishes when someone racks up enough Karma points, but even that keeps her pretty busy and interferes with her social life in high school. What she really wants to do is [...]

I really liked the characters of Jen and Leo, they complimented one another very well and I liked that Genies we're portrayed as normal people with lives. I'm new to NA and definitely miss the heat from adult romances but these two provided their own "smoke" and "flames" it was a fun and interesting read.Jen has never broken the rules, never lied to her parents, and never thought about abusing her powers, until Leo. If you're going to rebel why not for a hot guy! Leo cares about his father and w [...]

I read this as part of the boxed set - which I'm really thankful for because honestly this cover is one of my least favorites. Ever. Judgmental much? Yes.Thankfully the story is really quite cute. A fairly quick and easy read, I was able to finish in a few hours. I liked the whole idea of U.N.I.V.E.R.S.E. and I thought Jen and her family were realistic enough.I totally agree with Jen's mom about Jen's motives behind helping an unknown but I guess this is YA enough to not need those kinds of expl [...]

When I read the premise for "The Karma Beat," I wasn't sure how I'd like it - I felt like a story about modern day genies might be a hard sell. But I gave it a shot, and found it to be entertaining and to tackle the concept rather well. The characters do seem to act realistic overall, especially the teens and other younger characters. I found the interactions believable and the characters likeable, and I rather liked the way the story ended (even though it screams for a sequel!) Will definitely [...]

Three Wishes by Juli AlexanderThree wishes by Juli Alexander is now The Karma Beat. I can see the Three Wishes title, but the new The Karma Beat title has me puzzled. I have never read a book about genies so I thought that I would give this book a try. I loved the premise; the book, however, didn’t live up to its potential. The possibilities of the genie world were not explored in this book. I would have loved to know more background on Ms. Alexander’s genies. Having said that, I liked this [...]

Not a bad read. The beginning was a bit dull. By the middle it pick up and before I knew four hours have gone by and it was over.Three Wishes gets 4 stars. It looses a star for not grabbing me fully within a couple pages. Normally a writer can loose more than a star for this. Though Three Wishes did pick up. The writing style was awesome. The Jen’s brothers were a hoot and a half!I recommend this book for anyone who is completely into YA Books and/or Genies!!!

Another titillating teen tale by Juli Alexander! I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning to finish this one since I've had a shortage of spare time. If there's anything bound to tug on the heartstrings more than unrequited love, it's forbidden love. Definitely gonna keep an eye out for the sequel to this one!

Not unenjoyable at all. There were a few things that felt weak. Such as the 17 year old genie being activated early, but they never explained why she was activated early. Also the reasons behind all the drama was a bit on the weak side. But all in all, it wasn't unenjoyable.Jen seemed like a very normal girl. Though "I HAVE to practice" got really annoying. No, she didn't HAVE to practice. She chose to practice.Leo, I likedc etc.

This was a really fun read. Jenny was a pretty cool chick who seemed like a normal teenager but was bad ass enough when she needed to be. Leo was a nice counterpart and I found the whole idea of the U.N.I.V.E.R.S.E. very intriguing. I just wish the author went into a little more detail about the world and all the rules.

Too short, but I loved it! I haven't read many books about genies so this was a nice change. Jen is a fun MC & Leo seems awesome, I wanted more of those two. I'm so glad there will be another book because I didn't want to story to end. There is a lot of cool background/plot surrounding the genies & I definitely want to learn more!

The first Juli Alexander book I read was Stirring Up Trouble, and while I did like that one, this one was so much better. It had a more cohesive plot and better character development. Besides, who can resist the lure of a genie and a teen mystery all rolled up in one? And romance. It's the total package.

This book was a cute, quick read. It had a fascinating plot that kept me reading. I will never out grow a good teen love story. It had interesting characters and a girl I could relate to (except maybe the genie part) but I can pretend. Overall, it was a good read. I received this book for free through Firstreads.

Good, although not much romance, and it's not The Karma Beat - it's Three Wishes. I read it on Kindle and very hard to find there because of the name (and cover) change. It's also a cliffhanger of sorts. There is supposed to be a sequel from early this year called "The Techno Echo" and it's nowhere to be found! Definitely need either the continuation or resolution of Jen's and Leo's story!

Ok book, not her best.I am a 52 year old mom with a 15 year old daughter. We LOVE the Hottie books and eagerly await the he,t Paxton, PI book. I try to pre-read YA books for my (somewhat sheltered) girl. This is an OK story, but I won't be letting her read it. Not comfortable with the P***s references.

I was first introduced to this authot's work "Stirring Up Troublr" that I absolutely loved. I was so excited to see this one available. From readingbthe two books, her main characters are very likeable and real. I am still awaiting the follow-up to Stirring Up Trouble and Am making her pne of my new favorite authors. Regarding the story, i so want to meet Leo!

Talk about one hot kiss! This was a cute story, and Jen and Leo are adorable together! even if it is forbidden to the point of banishment. I can't wait to see what lengths they will go through to see each other in the next book. I picked up this book as part of the Supernatural Six collection. I would recommend this book to others.

This was my first YA genie book and I truly enjoyed it. The Karma Beat is a witty, fun read. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a quick read and if I had a daughter of my own I'd feel safe with her reading it.

The plot was entertaining enough to keep me reading, although it was definitely a book I could toss aside mid-chapter for several weeks or months without a second thought.Check out my blog for my full review: tubchairtimes/2013
