Recent Comments "Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video"

I read this book after visiting Weems' exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Her work is incredibly moving, insightful and politically relevant. This book does not live up to the experience of walking through "Ritual and Reputation" or standing face to face with the kitchen table series, but it does as best as as book could do to capture her work and to provide some well-written commentary that accompanies the pictures.

"Demanding, even confrontational, her tone fluctuates from humorous to quietly contemplative, her aesthetic meanders from folklore narrative to complex conceptual arrangements, defying precise categorization." Read the full review by Gladys-Katherina Hernando here: theartbookreview/2012/12/1
