Ninjas, famous for being unseen. This is an introduction to what life was like in a ninja village in Japan during the warring states period. Why I started it: I love theYou Wouldn't Want to series. Tons of fun!Why I finished it: Quick read and great information about Japan. Talking to a Japanese coworker he pointed out that the ninjas had no honor and it was better to be a samurai. So my next book will be You Wouldn't Want to Be a Samurai!: A Deadly Career You'd Rather Not Pursue

One of the things on my nephew's list of cool stuff is ninjas. This book was marvelous to him. My sister and I are pretty sure that he is some sort of reincarnated warrior, because if it has to do with pre-modern battle, he's totally on board with that. At numerous points in this story I heard him emit an enlightened "ahhh," that was equivalent to, "battle strategy noted and filed away for future use." He truly appreciated the resourcefulness and cunning of these ninjas warriors. I am pretty sur [...]

I'm not sure my boys wouldn't still want to be a ninja warrior after reading this, but they certainly loved having some facts about real ninjas! The details went through everything from training to handling obstacles and missions. There is even a description of the different walking techniques. This is a library borrow for us, but I'll definitely have to consider it for the home collection.

Another great entry from this junior series, full of great information (ninjas originally came from China) and the mundane (white rice is easier to digest, so it gives you energy right away). This, along with the cartoony illustrations that are typical of this series, make this an enjoyable book to read while doing research.

This one and the samurai book should go hand in hand. On the very first page I learned that nin means "to do quietly" and ja means "person". And women were ninjas also. And you learn how to wear your mask.

I think this series of books are so fun to read with the kiddos and give them a chance to imagine being the person in the setting.

3.5

Ninjas have always been considered mysterious. Their training is long and intense, and they must maintain an air of normalcy when not on missions.

Asher (8yo) read.

I know my fourth grade boys will eat this up! Not to mention the girls as well! Full of interesting facts. Nice pictures. Interesting arrangement of text - could be used to teach text features.

Cool non-fic book for kids about ninjas. High interest, lots of "practical knowledge" for kids with ninja aspirations. :) No real photos, but the illustrations are great.
