Rating 3.5Interesting short by Rachel Swirsky.It let me wandering what was real; what the mother thought real, or what the son perceived as reality? Maybe both, and at the same time neither. A bit of emotional whiplash for the reader. We begin with a bedtime story about silly monkeys who try to rescue the moon from the bottom of a well. Then we move onto a moon mission that goes awry, and we end with (view spoiler)[the monkey story turned on its head, having been brought to life, but without a chance of success. (hide spoiler)]I particularly enjoyed the focus on such a specific Chinese state. I'm used to seeing stories where "China" is thrown out as a location, as if it's this big, [...]
