I didn't expect to be convinced by his arguments on censorship, but convinced I was.
I am not that sympathetic to neoconservatism, but some of the first generation neocons, especially Kristol, were very interesting. In our current era where ex-leftism is on the rise, books like this seem especially important
Based upon preconceptions spun through the media and popular imagination over the past decade, one would expect a book about neoconservatism penned by its intellectual godfather to be an evil imperialist manifesto, detailing how to fabricate justifications for war and steal oil resources from Arab nations. But The Neoconservative Persuasion, a posthumously published collection of essays by Irving Kristol, does much to dispel those preconceived notions – or at least to demonstrate that neoconse [...]
'When Kristol looked to disparage the varieties of conservatism that came before his, he often refers to “pessimism” but even more to “nostalgia” or being “backward-looking.” But the Kristol who comes through in these pages is emphatically backward-looking, a man animated more than anything by nostalgia for the Truman administrationThere are worse ages to be nostalgic for, no doubt. But nostalgia, as Kristol surely knew because he said so often enough, is a thin basis for a political [...]
This was an interesting collection of writings. Some I enjoyed more than others. I wish the editors would have added some more context to understand in some small part why the author wrote what he did.It is essential reading on political thought if only for the thorough description of what a neoconservative is. And no, it is not just a code word for Jewish.
a leading conservative, Irving Kristol, inspired many Fox News Channel commutators like Charles Krauthammer, Sean Hannity and Bill Kristol. Neo-conservatism is very popular approach in United Kingdom and Europe.
